Toothache is pain around teeth and jaws, causing by infection, tooth decay, receding gums or broken fillings. There are some natural remedies which are available at your home which can be use to relief toothache. But if the pain last for more than 1 to 2 days, it is advisable to visit your dentist immediately for treatment.


Ice Pack

If your toothache is cause by injury or swollen gums, an ice pack will definitely make wonders. You can hold the ice pack against outside of your cheek, above your painful tooth or gums for a few minutes. It will help to numb your pain as well as reduce your selling.



Dissolve a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water and swish in your mouth for a minute before spitting it out. This will reduce swellings and relieve sore throat.



There is a long history of using garlic for medicinal purposes throughout humanity. There is a compound named allicin in garlic which contain powerful antibacterial properties. To use it, you can crush a fresh clove of garlic and mixed it with some salt, then applied the on the affected tooth.



Cloves are native spice found in Maluku Islands, Indonesia. Cloves have eugenol that acts as natural aesthetic. Furthermore, they also contain anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties which can helps to fight infection at your tooth and gums. You can soak a cotton ball with clove oil and apply it to your painful tooth. Another way of doing it is to chew a whole clove and hold in place against your affected tooth around 30 minutes.


Peppermint Tea

There is numbing properties in peppermint that can soothe your toothache. Menthol that gives peppermint its flavour contains antibacterial properties. Put a teaspoon of dried peppermint in a cup of boiling water. Allow it to cool before using as mouthwash.



Thymol found in in thyme contains antiseptic and antifungal properties. Add a drop of thyme essential oil in a glass of water and use it as mouthwash.
